Within the city limits, Munich in 2024 has a population of just under 1.6 million, the third most populous city in Germany. Greater Munich including its suburbs has a population of 3 million. The Munich metropolitan region, which encompasses cities such as Augsburg and Ingolstadt, has a population of 6.2 million. Standing on the river Isar in Southern Bavaria, it is famous for its beautiful architecture, fine culture, history and the annual Oktoberfest beer festival.
