About Cabras
Cabras sits about 7 km from Oristano on the West coast of Sardinia. The Sinis peninsula is an important international site for flora and fauna and home to many fascinating cultural treasures, the most stunning of which is Tharros. Beaches in this part of Sardinia are stunning and natural. Is Aruttas, Putzu Idu, Mari Erme and Torregrande are all worth mentioning. One of the best local festivals (there are many) is the barefoot race held on the first weekend of September. Three thousand men from Cabras run barefoot dressed in white to the village of San Salvatore where they re-enact an ancient feud over a religious statue. The statue is carried back from San Salvatore. It is a tremendous spectacle to watch; physically exhausting and painful.
